Club House & Pre Round Range Facilities

Baltray Golf Club (Also known to many as County Louth)  has a great choice of practice facilities on either side of the club. There is a driving range available to hit a few balls pre round and also two practice greens on either side of the clubhouse. The green which is overlooked by the clubhouse restaurant was where most confidence was lost pre round, but fear not, when you have seating as shown below, its as good a place to iron out the putting woes as any!

Halfway House

The layout of the course conveniently brings you back to the clubhouse after the 9th hole and allows you to restock on all beverages, snacks (& probably golf balls) and what ever else you may need.

More Golf?

The well known and highly recommended Seapoint borders the course near the 15th/16th/17th holes.

On the far side of Drogheda there is another strong links test in the shape of Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club.

Given our experience in Louth, its safe to say a review of these two alternative courses isn’t too far away!

Best place to eat post round?

We had the pleasure of visiting three great venues in Louth, Drogheda in particular. Our first night was spent in The Lime Kiln in Jullianstown on the outskirts of Drogheda. The food went down a treat and was very good value. The staff could not have been more welcoming, the Guinness was in plentiful supply and left no lasting effect for golf the following day!

We spent our second evening at two venues. We started out at the the Black Bull Inn where again food was faultless and again great value for money.

We ended the evening/night at Weavers Bar and Venue in Drogheda and we we can safely say, with the year that 2020 has been, it was the best night out we have had since March. Live music on the night was a welcome change and lead to one or two sing songs! We had some light bites which hit the spot at that stage of the day and we could not fault the drinks, atmosphere and staff as a whole.

To summarize - Get yourself to Weavers if your visiting Drogheda!

Accommodation

It is worth noting that the actual golf club itself is a 10 minute drive from Drogheda town centre. There are numerous options available within the town assuming that you have transport available to get to and from the golf course.

However, we stayed in a great AirBnB cottage in Laytown. It suited our group (6 players) down to the ground as it was close to the beach for a morning swim to clear the head. It was outside the town itself so we had no traffic issues and we had lots of space for parking. We ventured on the Saturday morning to Relish Cafe & Food Hall for breakfast which was only five minutes from the cottage and it ticked all the boxes.

Best Local 99

As promised, we continue our “Whippy cone” section and the Drogheda addition comes with a lofty recommendation. First instinct of the Black Bull Mace 99 cone was branded “The best whip of the summer” and it still holds the title. This is a fair statement given the extensive sample size our in house expert is basing this off. What more could you ask for after a nice afternoon meal on a summers day in the Black Bull but to tip in next door to Mace and pick up Trackmen's #1 ranked “Whippy Cone” of 2020!

Distances from Airports
